The fall season of the Skating and Hockey School runs from September 14 to December 14, 2025, and the spring season from January 4 to March 29, 2026. The Hockey School Tournament will be held on April 12, 2026.
Ice practices on Sundays:
Skating School: 9:30 – 10:10 AM
Hockey School: 10:15 – 11:00 AM
THE FIRST MONTH IS FREE FOR NEW MEMBERS!
To ensure the insurance coverage for the children, it is essential that a Hockey School registration is purchased for the child via Suomisport (after May 1st), and remember to sign up through the myClub system.
GROUP STRUCTURE AND ORGANIZATION
In Skating School, the basics of skating are taught. Parents are welcome to join on the ice to assist. Skating School is intended for 3–4-year-olds and is organized in cooperation with Nurmijärvi Figure Skating Club.
The school is divided into two parts:
- The main Skating School for children who can already skate a little on their own
- Family Skating, where the child and parent are on the ice together with the parent's support
Hockey School is divided into two skill-based groups:
Niemiset
- 4–6-year-olds who can already skate
- Ice practice on Sundays from 10:15 AM to 11:00 AM
- Monthly fee: 30€
Tuomistot
- 6–8-year-olds who can already skate, especially for those who are interested in team activities
- Ice practice on Sundays from 10:15 AM to 11:00 AM
- Monthly fee: 30€
Girls' Group
There is also an opportunity to explore hockey in a group specifically for girls.
ICE PRACTICES
Duration: Approx. 40-45 minutes
EQUIPMENT
Mandatory gear for Hockey School includes:
- Skates
- Helmet with a cage
- Neck guard
The following are also recommended for safety and fun:
- Hockey gloves (or thick winter gloves)
- Knee and elbow pads
- Chest protector
- Hockey pants
- Own hockey stick
We also offer the possibility to borrow equipment.
Wearing a beanie or hat under the helmet at the ice rink is not recommended. When the activity gets intense, the hat can easily slip over the eyes. The helmet alone keeps the head warm enough in the rink.
The helmet should have a name label so the instructors can learn the child’s name. A piece of tape with the child’s name clearly written on it is sufficient.
Free skate sharpening is offered once a month to Hockey School participants.
WHAT IS THE OP SKATING AND HOCKEY SCHOOL?
The Hockey School is the largest children's hockey program in Finland, with junior clubs from across the country involved. The Skating and Hockey School offers 3–8-year-old boys and girls the joy of movement and learning the game through various exercises, games, and fun competitions. For the 2025–2026 season, the head of operations is Kurra’s Head of Coaching. The practices follow the Finnish Ice Hockey Association’s "Leijona Hockey School" training program. All instructors have completed the Leijona Hockey School coaching course.
This national model by the Finnish Ice Hockey Association is designed for clubs to run skating and hockey schools for children under 8.
The content is divided into three levels based on the child’s skill level:
- Guided instruction from the start in a group suitable to the child’s level
- Long-term participation in Hockey School before transitioning to a team lowers the threshold for joining
The educational content includes:
- Technical skills (skating, puck control, stickhandling)
- Game learning skills
- Games and competitions
- Educational and developmental content
CHILD AT THE CENTER
Kurra Hockey aims to encourage children and youth towards versatile sports experiences in a high-quality and inspiring environment.
Inspiration through joy
- Encourage the right things
- Acknowledge the child
- Playfulness
Ice Practice Guidelines
- Less talk, more action
- Simple instructions
- Learning by example
- Positivity and enthusiasm
Versatile Physical Activity
The aim is to develop children’s motor skills (balance, movement, and equipment handling), which are best learned from age 3 to 8. These skills support overall athleticism and readiness for daily and sports-related tasks, like playing hockey.

PRACTICE ETIQUETTE AT THE ICE RINK
- Park only in designated spaces
- The best place for parents to encourage children is the stands or café – not the players’ bench or rinkside because outdoor shoes bring in sand and other debris that can damage skate blades on the walkways where people move around in skates.
Practice Guidelines
- Arrive 20–30 minutes before practice to gear up calmly
- Always bring all gear and take care of it
- Remember to use the toilet before putting gear on
- Check the entrance display to see which locker rooms are in use
- Leave your stick in the rack outside the locker room
- Players may enter the ice from the locker room only after the previous group has completely cleared the rink.
- Wait for the ice resuracer to finish and exit before stepping on the ice
- Coaches use whistles during drills
- Parents stay in the stands – the bench area is for players and staff only
- Hockey School staff handle water breaks
- Label all equipment with your child’s name
- Shower facilities are available after practice
- Leave the locker room tidy
- Do not attend practice when sick
Parents are responsible for:
- Helping children gear up
- Be present during practice in case your child, for example, suddenly needs to use the restroom
- Wiping foreheads post-practice
PARENT INFO SESSION
Will be held in the fall – the date will be announced later.
FORMATION OF NEW AGE-GROUP TEAM
An information meeting about forming a new age-group team will be held in the spring.

EASY HOCKEY IS A FUN AND RELAXED HOBBY
Easy Hockey is intended for girls and boys aged 9–16 who want to play ice hockey without pressure, once a week, and alongside their other hobbies. No previous ice hockey experience is required, but having experience doesn’t prevent participation either. To join, participants only need skates, a neck guard, a hockey stick, and a hockey helmet with a cage. Equipment can also be borrowed from the club. You can find the equipment guide here.
Easy Hockey is for those who enjoy playing ice hockey but may not have the time or opportunity to attend practices several times a week. It’s a fun way to play hockey in a relaxed and supervised environment every Tuesday.
Easy Hockey practices are primarily game-based – either full-ice or small-area games are played for approximately 70–100% of the practice time. The rest of the practice content depends on the participants’ skill levels.
In Easy Hockey, friendly matches and scrimmages are played against other local clubs.
The Easy Hockey season runs from August 19, 2025, to March 31, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the practice rink at Klaukkala Ice Hall.
Exceptions: on December 23 and 30, there will be free family skating without instruction, and there will be no practice on January 6, 2026.
Easy Hockey costs 30€/month regardless of age, plus a one-time youth registration fee of 5€, which includes insurance. You can cancel your participation via email.
